Refuge from the storm

Refuge from the Storm

Medium: Original Acrylic on Canvas

Each of us will experience pain, loss, fear, and heartache in the “storms” of this life. God’s Word is full of His promises to be with us in these storms. (Isaiah 32:2; Isaiah 25:4; John 14:27; John 16:33 and more) This is the first painting I’ve done in nearly 30 years, and don’t think it’s a coincidence that Spectra Artists decided to study the book The Creative Call. I see it as an answer to prayer for me personally. It’s really amazing how the Holy Spirit leads us in the area of our creativity.

Birds are not impressed with the impending threat of a storm. In fact, they look comfortable. A little lesson perhaps from nature in the small things as the storm is much bigger than the birds, but God equipped them to have no fear.

Cleft For Me

Medium: Pastel

Springtime is the season of storms here in Arkansas, but in the seasons of life, we know not when the storms will come. Exodus 33:22 tells of Moses being placed safely in the cleft of the rock when the ominous glory of the face of the Lord was passing in front of him. My faith tells me that when the powerful storms of life come, there is a  Rock whose name is Jesus. He was broken (cleft) for me as a place of peace in adverse times. I identify with the flower in the cleft, for like the fragile daisy, I can stand upright and confident in the face of menacing tests on the horizon of life for I know the cleft in the Rock is where I belong and where I can take root.

Inspiration: Luke 8:25

“Where is your faith?” He asked His disciples.

Many times in life we forget we belong to God – God wanted us in the world, in nature and interacting with others while relying on Him. We are not our own and no one belongs to us. All is God’s and He loves us and others and called the creation He spoke into existence good.

I Have Your Back

Medium: Original Oil
Inspiration: Deuteronomy 31: 8

He it is that doth go before thee, He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

Our life may not be easy, but it will be worth it with Christ at our side.

Been There

Medium: Colored Pencils/Pen

When I started this drawing, I started thinking of all the storms I have been through. So I decided to draw how I felt during a major storm in my life, and it was through that storm, I made a decision to follow Jesus. I was 17 years old. And this drawing shows that I felt my life falling apart- the walls breaking down around me- And yet I could go to Him to find strength, comfort and peace.

When I think about my spiritual journey it was easier to combine the two images of peace and storm when I thought of a mentor’s quote that meant a lot to me, and that was "having a real God for real needs." I like these verses from Psalm 9:9-10 (the Message): God's a safe house for the battered, a sanctuary during
bad times. The moment you arrive, you relax; you’re never sorry you knocked.
